Meet SJ

Qualifications

I'm SJ (she/her), a qualified Integrative Counsellor with an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling, working in Exeter, U.K.

Experience

Before entering private practice, I spent over a year working as a counsellor at a local LGBTQ+ charity. I continue to volunteer with LGBTQ+ organisations and am deeply passionate about offering affirmative therapy for LGBTQ+ clients, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome, seen, and valued for who they are.

As a lover of the outdoors, I feel very fortunate to live and work in Devon. I have spent many years working with children in nature-based environments, and in my therapy practice today, offer nature-based therapy and outdoor counselling sessions.

I also have a background in meditation and mindfulness facilitation and occasionally bring mindfulness-based techniques into session when a client feels it may be helpful.

My own experience of therapy began in my early twenties and has been profoundly life-changing. Each experience - as both client and therapist - has affirmed my belief that therapy can be a quietly powerful space of transformation.

The Heart of Therapy

I believe we all have a deep need to be fully seen, heard, and accepted. For me, the heart of therapy is offering a space where clients can come exactly as they are, and be met with warmth, openness, and respect. From this meeting, we can often begin to rediscover our truest selves and move towards living a more fulfilling life.
